DESCRIPTION
Norepinephrine (sometimes referred to as l-arterenol/Levarterenol or l-norepinephrine) is a sympathomimetic amine which differs from epinephrine by the absence of a methyl group on the nitrogen atom.
Norepinephrine Bitartrate is(-)-a-(aminomethyl)-3,4-dihydroxybenzyl alcohol tartrate (1:1) (salt) monohydrate
Norepinephrine Bitartrate Injection is a sterile, nonpyrogenic concentrated solution of the drug in water for injection. It is intended for intravenous administration only after dilution in dextrose containing solutions (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION).
Each mL of norepinephrine bitartrate 1:1,000 contains the equivalent of 1 mg norepinephrine base; sodium Chloride 8.2 mg; sodium metabisulfite 0.46 mg added as an antioxidant; citric acid, anhydrous 1.3 mg and sodium citrate, dihydrate 0.9 mg added as buffers. The pH is 3.6 (3.0 to 4.5). Norepinephrine Bitartrate Injection, USP, is oxygen sensitive.
This solution contains no bacteriostat or antimicrobial agent. When smaller doses or amounts are required the unused portion should be discarded.
