Timoptic Patient, Information, Instructions - Timolol Maleate

PATIENT INFORMATION

Timolol maleate is known as a beta-blocker. It is used to treat high blood pressure, treat glaucoma, prevent headaches and is given to some patients who have had a heart attack. This medication should not be used by those with breathing difficulties without the advice of a physician. It can also block signs of low blood sugar in those with diabetes. This medication should not be stopped abruptly. It should be slowly stopped over a period of days. If you are using this medication for glaucoma, you should learn to properly instill eye drops. It is important not to touch the tip of the bottle to anything, especially the skin or eye. Keeping the tip clean will prevent infections of the bottle and your eye. Wait 15 minutes after instilling the eye drops to put contact lenses in. The most common side effect of this drug is muscle weakness and feeling tired. This may subside with continued therapy. Consult your physician if this becomes a problem.

7. Replace the cap. Store the bottle at room temperature in an upright position in a clean area.
